When we purchased our Hypnos Darley (Cotton Origins 7) king size sprung divan bed with headboard from Furniture Village, we were expecting nothing but the best quality and comfort for a luxurious night's sleep. However, what unfolded was a frustrating and uncomfortable experience that left us questioning the true value of our £2.5k investment.

Within six to eight months, the springs had burst through one side of the mattress, causing an increasingly uncomfortable effect on our bed. As owners of Hypnos beds previously without any issues, we were shocked and disappointed by this sudden development. The problem persisted despite repeated attempts to resolve it with Furniture Village, who claimed that it was due to 'natural settlement' and suggested turning the mattress once a week for three months.

We found this solution impractical and ineffective, as a ridge or hump formed down the middle of the mattress after just a week, making it feel like sleeping at the bottom of a hill. The cashmere cushion topper sewn on top did little to alleviate the discomfort. My husband, in particular, began experiencing neck pain due to the constant strain of sleeping on an uneven surface.

After much deliberation, we decided to seek advice from The Furniture Ombudsman and considered writing to them directly. We were hesitant to do so, given that it had been three years since our purchase, but we felt that we had no other choice if we wanted to resolve the issue amicably.

Furniture Village eventually agreed to send a technician, who again attributed the problem to 'natural settlement.' However, Hypnos sent their own technician, who immediately diagnosed a problem with the mattress and recommended replacing it. This was a welcome development, but we were disappointed that it took so long to resolve the issue.

Ultimately, we are left wondering whether the high price tag of our Hypnos bed truly reflects its quality and durability. While it may look beautiful in appearance, our experience has been marred by discomfort, stress, and frustration. We hope that our story will serve as a warning to others considering investing in a Hypnos mattress: be prepared for potential issues and take proactive steps to resolve them before they become a nightmare.
